Gamers will get a range of new cards this year

Video game developer Blizzard is suggesting that fans of Hearthstone will need to pay attention on July 22 as the company is getting ready to officially announce a new expansion for the card game, which will be probably launched later in the year.

The studio has used a letter in a cardboard tube, which features a fanfare playing as shown in the attached video from PC Gamer, to deliver a message that talks about champions who will witness the next chapter of the game.

Blizzard states, "News travels far and wide in search of brave new faces ready to answer the call to arms — Are you one of them? Muster for battle and mark July 22 on your calendar. The next bit of news won’t come by carrier pigeon — thankfully, we have much better ways of communication now. Victory awaits."

New content for Hearthstone has followed a pattern that alternates between adventure content and packs that introduce large numbers of new cards.

This year gamers already received access to the five wings of Blackrock Mountain and that means a big set of cards will be delivered, offering players more options for their decks and their strategies.

Blizzard is not offering any hints about the actual theme of the new Hearthstone expansion, and even the most dedicated of fans have been unable to find clues in the written message.

Some on Reddit are talking about pirates and ninjas, but the actual message and the delivery system bring to mind a tournament and knights.

Hearthstone is becoming big business for Blizzard

The card game is a solid hit at the moment and can be played on the PC as well as on mobile devices, which means its audience can only grow as more content and more modes, like the Tavern Brawl, are introduced.

Blizzard has also recently started offering alternate heroes for each class, which only have a cosmetic impact, and despite the relatively high price tag, a number of players are interested in getting more such tweaks.

Hearthstone is successful enough that other companies are seeking to enter the card game market.

At E3 2015 Bethesda announced a new The Elder Scrolls Online Legends title which will use a similar concept but with a focus on its very successful fantasy universe while Disney unveiled a Star Wars focused experience called Galaxy of Heroes.
