Excellent news for fans of the original HBO series “Deadwood,” which ran for 3 seasons between 2004 and 2006: we’re finally getting the closure we were promised years ago, after the network decided to cancel the series. Probably. Hopefully.

TV Line reports that HBO is very interested in getting the gang together again for one last time, but that doesn’t mean that we’ll be getting a revival. Production on “Deadwood” was very costly and ratings were never golden, no matter how glowing the reviews and fan feedback, which is why it was canceled in the first place.

The initial plan, years ago, was to come out with two TV movies that would bring all the stories to a close and offer the fans the ending they deserved for their loyalty - and also the ending such a complex series deserved.

For a variety of reasons, the films were never made. According to the trade publication, it’s happening now: HBO is in the early stages of making one wrap-up film for “Deadwood.”

That there is interest in the project is confirmed by actor Garret Dillahunt, who starred on “Deadwood” as Francis Wolcott and Jack McCall, on Twitter. He’s getting the fans worked up to put pressure on HBO to make the film, by showing the brass that the fans would watch it.

Officially, HBO is not committing to the wrap-up just yet. “In reference to Garret Dillahunt’s tweet regarding the rumored Deadwood movie, there have only been very preliminary conversations,” a spokesperson for the network says.
