The developers of the Debian-based HandyLinux distribution have announced the immediate availability for download of HandyLinux 2.4, a maintenance release in the 2.x stable series of the OS.

HandyLinux 2.4 comes only ten days after the release of the Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 "Jessie" operating system, on which the French distro is now based, offering users new installation mediums that include the latest security patches and software updates pushed upstream.

However, HandyLinux 2.4 has undergone some changes of its own in the past few months since the release of HandyLinux 2.3, which was dedicated to the late Ian Murdock. Among them are improvements to the in-house built HandyMenu, the HandyLinux Update Manager, as well as the custom actions of the Thunar file manager.

Additionally, the greeter has been revamped, and some spring cleaning has been done to remove obsolete metapackages from the base system. Also, Pavucontrol has been added to let users fine-tune the PulseAudio sound server, the Skype installer has been removed, along with XScreenSaver, the Iceweasel web browser has been replaced with Mozilla Firefox, and Evince is now the default PDF viewer.

How to get HandyLinux 2.4 right now

If you're using HandyLinux 2.3 or a previous version, you can simply update your system to today's HandyLinux 2.4 release just by using the built-in graphical package manager utility, the HandyLinux Update Manager. To do this, you can follow the approach given in the online documentation.

If you're new to HandyLinux, you can download the HandyLinux 2.4 Live ISO images for 64-bit or 32-bit computers right now via our website or directly from the project's homepage, where you can find all the information you need to get started with this unique Debian-based OS.
