The project is at the moment in very active development

It seems that despite the demise of the video-focused content production unit at Microsoft, a television series based on the Halo universe might still be created by Showtime under the leadership of Steven Spielberg.

IGN has talked to the president of the network, David Nevins, about the possibility of actually seeing the project become reality, and he answered that "It's still in development. Still in very active development."

The executive also mentioned that the Halo TV series would not be offered to fans too soon because it still needs a lot of work.

Steven Spielberg first announced the project in 2013, when Microsoft talked about ambitious plans to make its best-known video game series a multimedia project.

Since then, the company launched the Halo: Nightfall movie, which was not received as well as initially expected, and the entity that handled development of video content was basically shut down.

Showtime was always mentioned as a production partner for the Halo TV series, but Microsoft has never said that the project might be entirely finished by the network.

Steven Spielberg himself has not offered any updates recently, and it's unclear what kind of story it will tell and whether there are plans to link it with the video games or to create something entirely new.

Halo 5: Guardians is coming this fall

The focus for developer 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft is to put the finishing touches on the new Master Chief-powered video game and make sure that it delivers the quality the player community is expecting.

The two companies have revealed a single-player campaign that will be bigger and more emotional than ever before and will allow gamers to tackle all the action cooperatively.

For the multiplayer of Halo 5: Guardians, the big addition is the Warzone experience, which blends Player versus Player and Player versus Environment action on some special maps.

All the involved Spartans now have access to powerful new abilities and 343 Industries wants to offer more dynamism and excitement.

Halo 5: Guardians will be offered on October 27 only on the Xbox One.

The Halo TV series might get detailed next year and might be actually shown on Showtime one year after that.
