343 Industries, the developer of the Halo series, confirms that it already has plans for the next 10 years of the franchise and that Halo 6, the next major title, even has some writing done, so the team knows where it's going with the overarching plot.

The Halo saga has been around for over 10 years now and it's delivered some mighty impressive shooter experiences across the Xbox, Xbox 360, or the Xbox One. The last few years have been quite hectic for developer 343 Industries, which oversaw the debut of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection in 2014 and is currently gearing up for Halo 5: Guardians, which arrives next month on the Xbox One.

Future plans are already in place, including for Halo 6

Now, while talking about the future of the series with GamesRadar, Halo Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor confirms that there's a plan for the next 10 years of the saga and that he's even done some writing, together with his team, for the next entry, Halo 6.

He explains that the plans are only at a broad level, so at this moment just a general direction of the experience is known by the development team, and that the nitty gritty details will be set in stone once the studio actually reaches that point with the respective games.

"We do kind of know what’s going to happen in the next game pretty well at this point," he says. "We’re doing serious real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that’s a luxury - we’ve never been in that position before. So we both know at a very high level what’s going to happen in, say, ten years from now. But at that very granular level knowing what’s going to happen in the next game and that’s just been a great feeling for me."

The Halo saga will see Halo 5 debut this year, and in 2016 a sequel for the real-time strategy spinoff Halo Wars 2 is going to arrive on the Xbox One and PC. It's possible that Halo 6 will appear in 2017 or soon after that.
