Traditionally, video game developers have been unwilling to share details about the way the community enjoys their title with the public, but for Halo 5: Guardians the team at 343 Industries is announcing that it will offer a full public stats API for developers.

The tool is designed to allow anyone interested in the shooter to take player statistics from it and then use them to power new websites and applications, showing clans, groups or judges for various competitions all the info they need to improve their performance or to judge that of others.

The official announcement explains that "The Halo API program is currently in private beta, and we’re working with both professional and community organizations including ESL, MLG, Halo Charts, Halo Tracker, and more so that they can hit the ground running when Halo 5 launches later this month. Additionally, this allows us to ensure public access will be ready to launch around the same time frame that Halo 5 releases."

343 Industries also explains that a full set of stats linked to each gamer's performance will be accessible on the Halo Channel and via the Waypoint.

The data that the API will support is Service Record - Life-to-date stats for each player, Match History - Access to each match played, Carnage Report - Complete statistical breakdown for each player in a match.

Halo 5: Guardians is set to arrive only on the Xbox One on October 27.

A new gameplay trailer shows the action-driven side of the game

343 Industries and Microsoft have been talking a lot about the narrative complexity of the coming campaign in Halo 5: Guardians, which offers a new take on the familiar universe.

Gamers will be able to see the action through the eyes of both Master Chief, who leads the Blue Team and is presumed dead when the story starts, and Agent Locke, who handles his own Fireteam Osiris and is tasked with finding the character.

The Hunt the Truth podcast series has been also setting up the bigger threat in Halo 5: Guardians that both protagonists will have to face at some point.

The new gameplay trailer for the shooter emphasizes the many challenging firefights that gamers will have to deal with and the complexity of the environments they will need to navigate.

For the first time in the franchise, gamers will be able to visit Sanghelios and explore its surface as they seek to dodge two armies engaged in battle.

343 Industries has also promised that the campaign will be more emotional than any other in the series.

When it comes to the multiplayer side of Halo 5: Guardians, the studio is introducing an entirely new Warzone experience, which mixes Player versus Player and Player versus AI engagements and has some mechanics borrowed from the MOBA genre.

Gamers who want to get into more of a classic competitive match will be able to use the Arena mode, which is also designed to appeal to those who like eSports.
