The development team at 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft are delivering the opening cinematic for Halo 5: Guardians, even if the game is about two months away from release and the companies still have a lot of other details to share with the fan community.

The footage is pretty impressive and sets up the entire story of the coming title, although there still are plenty of details about the narrative that are unclear.

343 Industries states, "In the cinematic, the group receives UNSC orders to recover a high value target and deploy to take on Covenant and Promethean forces in a fierce action sequence - the start to the most ambitious, robust and epic Halo campaign experience yet."

Halo 5: Guardians is specifically designed to use the power of the new Microsoft console to show a new side of the universe, with a focus on the characters and the way their personalities are shaped by the threats they face.

Agent Locke, who was introduced in the Nightfall live action movie, will have to follow Master Chief and gamers will get to see two very different perspectives on the same events.

Halo 5: Guardians also delivers big tweaks to multiplayer

There are a lot of fans who want to learn what's happening to Master Chief in the new story, and a wide variety of other characters from the series will also make an appearance in the new game, allowing players to get through the entire campaign cooperatively.

At the same time, 343 Industries is introducing a big set of changes to the multiplayer side of Halo 5: Guardians, to make the game more dynamic.

All Spartans will have an extended range of movement options, which have been tweaked since the beta, and there are new abilities that can be equipped based on the threats they face.

343 Industries says that it is still tweaking the balance so that the game appeals to long-term fans but at the same time offers the kind of modern gameplay Xbox One fans expect from it.

The game will offer an entirely new Warzone experience, which mixes PvP and PvE elements, with Arena for the competitive scene and Slayer also making a return.

Halo 5: Guardians will be launched on the Xbox One on October 27, and gamers can now place a pre-order for it or pick up a special bundle.
