Halo 5: Guardians publisher Microsoft and developer 343 Industries have just rolled out some fresh new details about the upcoming Xbox One exclusive shooter, alongside quite a few screenshots and a couple of gameplay videos depicting two missions from the story campaign.

Halo 5 is the next big entry in the long-running shooter series published by Microsoft. In recent months, a wide array of information has been shared by the large corporation and by its team at 343 Industries. After learning quite a few new things concerning elements like the REQ system, more details are coming in after a special preview session organized by the two companies earlier this month.

Removing split-screen co-op was tough but necessary

First up, while talking with Gamespot, Microsoft Xbox boss Phil Spencer defends the decision from 343 Industries to remove split-screen cooperative play from the upcoming shooter. According to him, cooperative experiences are less likely to rely on players being in the same place and more likely for them to be in their own homes. As such, the use of a split-screen system is dwindling in favor of online cooperative play.

"With Halo 5, the team really wanted to focus on making that experience great, both visually on the screen that you're looking at, and all the systems in place. While I loved the split screen of Halo 1, obviously it was kind of how multiplayer in Halo was born, I think the team made a trade-off based on what they see happening in the market today and what they wanted to do with their game," he says.

New gameplay videos and screenshots are also available

Besides this explanation from Spencer, two direct gameplay videos have appeared showcasing two distinct missions from the game's story campaign. A lot of screenshots are also available, depicting various intense moments from the aforementioned stages.

Halo 5: Guardians arrives on October 27, worldwide, exclusively for the Xbox One console.
