14 DAY TRIAL // If we’re to believe reports online, Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are heading for divorce after a little over 2 years of marriage. As per the same reports, they have actually been separated for months and are living separately, having decided that there is nothing more to be done for them to function as a couple.
Many of these reports are based on quotes from “insiders” and are backed up by paparazzi photos of Halle without her wedding band and without the gorgeous emerald-and-diamonds ring Olivier proposed to her with.
Halle lost the engagement ring
As it turns out, the explanation for the disappearance of the engagement ring is simple and has nothing to do with the divorce: Halle lost it, TMZ has learned.
“Halle lost her engagement ring in Mexico a year-and-a-half ago. She was at the Acapulco International Film Festival in January 2014 where she received the Silver Jaguar Award. Halle says the ring either fell off her hand or she left it on a table and someone took it,” the report notes.
Olivier told her he would have it replaced but they got caught with other stuff and it was never a priority. So the reason Halle hasn’t been wearing her engagement ring isn’t that she took it off because her marriage is over but rather that she had the worst luck in the world to lose it.
TMZ doesn’t say why Halle hasn’t been wearing her wedding band in public and neither does it explain why she and Olivier haven’t been photographed together in months.
Reports of marital trouble
Halle and Olivier started dating after her relationship with Gabriel Aubry, the model who fathered daughter Nahla, came apart. They met on a movie set and clicked right away, but they played it coy for another while before going public with the romance.
They eventually got engaged and married, and had a baby boy. In the past year or so, their joint public appearances have been very few and far between, which in showbiz could be the first sign of trouble in the relationship.
Insiders told the media last week that Olivier’s temper spoiled the marriage, as Halle became convinced he had no intention of trying to control it.
In their time together, Olivier got into a very violent brawl with Aubry right outside their home on Thanksgiving, beating him to a bloody pulp, but he also got physical with several paparazzi.
According to the spies, when he used his own son’s car seat to hit an airport staffer who was trying to take his picture, Halle understood that he would never change. More so, she understood that his violent behavior might get worse. Allegedly, of course.
