The release cycle of the GTK+ 3.22 toolkit is nowhere near the end of life, and a new point release appeared on the official FTP servers of the GNOME Project, versioned 3.22.9.

GTK+ 3.22.9 was released at the end of February, two weeks after the launch of the eighth maintenance update to the GTK+ 3.22 stable series, which is targeted at users of the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment. GTK+ 3.22.9 is a modest update that adds a bunch of bug fixes and improvements for Wayland support, as well as HiDPI.

But first, it looks like Ctrl-navigation now works again in the opposite direction in RTL (Right-to-Left) text, and the scale factor is now properly propagated upon reparent. Additionally, pressure sensitivity was improved for Surface Book/MyPaint and it should no longer be lost if the user removes the pen from screen.

Among the Wayland improvements implemented in GTK+ 3.22.9, we can mention that the Gtk.Popover component should now be correctly placed, the menu was fixed to be resized when disabling an action, and keyboard navigation should now be more reliable in programs like Vim because key repeat was improved under Wayland.

HiDPI improvements, updated translations

On the HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) side of things, GTK+ 3.22.9 returns the screen size when the HiDPI mode is enabled. Other improvements include use of the gtk_show_uri_on_window() function, better placement of the rename popover, and improved shadow for app windows after changing the theme.

GTK+ 3.22.9 also makes the documented flat style class more usable than in previous versions, and switches to the gtk_show_uri_on_window() function for sandboxed applications. Below, we've attached the full changelog if you're curious to know what exactly was changed in this release.

Last but not least, the Spanish, Swedish, Lithuanian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Chinese, Chinese (Taiwan), Galician, Serbian, Hungarian, and Italian language translations have been updated. You can download the GTK+ 3.22.9 source tarball right now from our website if you fancy compiling software from sources.
