Just a few days ago, we announced the release of the seventh maintenance build for the stable GTK+ 3.18 series of the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, but now the hard-working devs behind the project have released a brand new development version.

GTK+ 3.19.8 is now available for download, and we’ve managed to get our hands on the internal changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference. We can thus tell you what's new in the release, which brings the major GTK+ 3.20 release closer to reality.

Among the newly implemented features, we can mention the addition of a visual hit for scrolling and full-featured gadget conversion for spin buttons and entries for the GtkEntry widget, a new radio and check implementation for themes, as well as support for previewing .ui files with the gtk-builder-tool utility.

CSS changes, lots of bugfixes

In addition to the changes mentioned above, GTK+ 3.19.8 ships with several CSS changes, among which we can mention support for loading Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) images, baseline handling improvements, proper HiDPI support for the -gtk-recolor() function, as well as support for the image() function.

Also, the GtkStack widget has been turned into a no-window one. Numerous bugs reported by users since the previous development milestone of the upcoming GTK+ 3.20 GUI (Graphical User Interface) toolkit have been corrected in this release, which you can download right now from our website.

The German and Hungarian language translations have been updated as well in GTK+ 3.19.8, which is considered pre-release software that you should not install on production machines. The final release of GTK+ 3.20 will be unveiled in the coming weeks and distributed as part of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment.
