As part of the soon-to-be-released GNOME 3.18 RC (Release Candidate) build of the acclaimed open-source desktop environment, the GTK+ developers prepared a new milestone towards GTK+ 3.18.

GTK+ 3.17.9 has been seeded to users worldwide earlier today, September 15, 2015, and fixes rubberbanding and icon view highlighting for the Adwaita theme, fixes linked entries, color button, and path bar for the HighContrast theme, and addresses assertions when using GL with the Wayland display server.

The gtk3-demo component has been updated to launch individual demos directly from the command-line, the Ctrl+K keyboard shortcut has been removed from the GtkEntry component in order to avoid a conflict with a keyboard shortcut of the Mozilla Firefox web browser, and the GtkPopover component will no longer inherit its style from the attached widget.

GTK+ 3.17.9 also received numerous optimizations, including better use of GQuarks, the ability to use the g_object_notify_by_pspec function, support for using CAIRO_CONTENT_COLOR when available, speed improvements for various bitmask operations, removal of the GSlice allocator, .ui translation fixes, and the addition of Google Drive and AFP to the list of remote filesystems.

Many bugs have been squashed

As expected with any new development release of a software, many bugs have been squashed. Therefore, GTK+ 3.17.9 fixes an issue with unexpected background color in the tray icon, addresses an issue where scroll events from a wireless mouse device were ignored, fixes several crashes with the Wayland display server, repairs some problems with RTL locales, and updates the Inspector to no longer display GtkAdjustments.

Last but not least, the Norwegian Bokmal, French, Korean, Greek, Lithuanian, Kazakh, Portuguese, Slovak, and Polish language translations have been updated. If you want to take this development version of GTK+ for a test drive, you can always download the GTK+ 3.17.9 sources right now from Softpedia. Please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
