The GStreamer development team had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of the second milestone towards the highly anticipated GStreamer 1.6 open-source and cross-platform multimedia backend.

GStreamer 1.5.2 is a major release that adds numerous new features, such as improved Digital Theater Systems (DTS) support, an absolute property for GstDirectControlBinding, the active-pad and adjust-base properties, support for handling various duration track selections, and support for handling buffer lists for the last-sample property.

Furthermore, it is now possible to forward FLUSH_START and FLUSH_STOP events, to reset internal start offset to the zero (0) value immediately after seek is flushed, to allow separation or collation of buffers, to keep buffers that share the same memory alive, to deep-copy the last buffer list in pipe, as well as to accurately send EOS when releasing the pad.

"The GStreamer team is pleased to announce the second release of the unstable 1.5 release series. The 1.5 release series is adding new features on top of the 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 series and is part of the API and ABI-stable 1.x release series of the GStreamer multimedia framework. The unstable 1.5 release series will lead to the stable 1.6 release series in the next weeks, and newly added API can still change until that point," the announcement says.

GStreamer 1.6 multimedia framework comes in the next weeks

GStreamer 1.5.2 also adds the GObject, gst_pipeline_set_latency(), and getter properties, makes the clock to act as a wrapper clock around an internal clock for netclientclock, improves the subclasses to recognize map flags in unmap, makes get_compatible_pad to ultimately acknowledge filter caps, and adds ifreq.ifw_hwaddr to ptp for various BSD systems, such as FreeBSD and DragonFly BSD.

As the developers mentioned, the GStreamer 1.6 multimedia framework will arrive in the next weeks, but until then, you can download GStreamer 1.5.2 right now from Softpedia and give it a try. However, we remind you that this is a pre-release software, and it's not suitable for production environments where stability is of the essence.
