14 DAY TRIAL // The developers of the open-source and cross-platform multimedia framework that is being used by numerous commercial and open source software projects were extremely proud to announce that GStreamer 1.6 is now available for download.
According to the release notes, which have been attached at the end of the article for reference, GStreamer 1.6 introduces support for stereoscopic 3D and multiview video streams, better handling of DTS (decoding timestamp) and PTS (presentation timestamp), renegotiation support for v4l2src, scaling support for v4l2transform, as well as improvements to multifilesink and splitmuxsink.
Chunked recording of Matroska (MKV), Ogg Vorbis, MP4, and MPEG-TS streams has been made a lot easier, there's now new Trick Mode and GstVideoConverter APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for key-frame only fast-forward and fast-reverse playback, and better conversion of raw video frames between supported formats, along with improvements to MSS, HLS, and DASH adaptive streams.
Furthermore, GStreamer 1.6 adds RECORD support for the GStreamer RTSP server, Retransmissions (RTX) support in both GStreamer's RTSP client and server components, boasts high-quality text subtitle overlay, better supports RTSP seeking, sees the addition of new Network Time Protocol (NTP) and Precision Time Protocol (PTP) network clients clocks, along with a brand-new audiointerleave element.

GStreamer now supports H.265 (x265) video encoder and decoders
In addition to the new features mentioned above, GStreamer 1.6 implements support for the H.265 (x265) video encoder, as well as various H.265 video decoders, including libav and libde265, adds SRTP and DTLS support, as well as OpenGL 3, 2K and 4K support.
3D video support, subtitle blending, multiple contexts and context propagation, transfer and conversion separation, and live mixing support are also part of the new version.
