The GStream development team has come up today, December 14, 2015, with the second maintenance release in the GStreamer 1.6 series of the open-source, free and cross-platform multimedia framework.

As usual, we've managed to get our hands on the internal changelog, and we can tell you that GStreamer 1.6.2 is mostly a bugfix release that patches over 12 issues reported by users or discovered by the development team since the previous maintenance build.

"The GStreamer team is proud to announce the second bugfix release in the stable 1.6 release series of your favourite cross-platform multimedia framework! This release only contains bugfixes and it is safe to update from 1.6.0 and 1.6.1," say the GStreamer developers in the internal changelog, attached at the end of the article for reference.

Among the changes, we can mention a big OpenGL performance improvement to the iOS mobile operating system by using the sync extension developed by Apple, the gst-libav component now supports FFMpeg 2.8.3, several compilation issues on Microsoft Windows have been patched, and some minor memory leaks have been plugged.

Many other issues have been fixed in GStreamer 1.6.2

Furthermore, the second maintenance release of GStreamer 1.6 patches some crashes in the gst-libav component, which affected various third-party sinks and d3dvideosink, resolves various deadlocks in the DirectSound elements on the Microsoft Windows platform, adds missing OpenGL context initialization in the QML and Qt video sink, and brings better support for Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Last but not least, the Direct3D video sink has been updated to no longer crash when the window is minimized, support for files larger than 2GB has been added to the Android platform, the interoperability with certain RTSP servers when using HTTP tunnels has been improved, and the deserialization of GDP depayloader's custom events now works as expected.
