Feral Interactive‏ has announced today that the Android version of the GRID Autosport racing game, which arrived in December of 2015 on Linux, SteamOS and macOS platforms, will come with Vulkan boost under the hood.

Developed by Codemasters, which is known for launching hot racing titles like the Colin McRae Rally and DiRT series, the GRID Autosport game offers players a modern, good-looking and fun racing environment. The game was officially launched in June 2014 for Microsoft Windows operating systems, as well as PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming consoles.

It was ported one and a half years later to Linux, SteamOS and macOS operating systems by Feral Interactive, a UK-based game publisher that now plans to bring the popular racing game to select Android devices and Apple's iOS mobile platform later this year. And the good news we want to share with you today is that they promise support for the next-generation Vulkan graphics API for the Android build.

GRID Autosport for iOS and Android to hit the streets until autumn

And now for the bad news, as the company has announced recently that they are forced to delay the launch of the GRID Autosport for iOS until autumn. Same goes for the Android version, which is expected later this year, according to Feral Interactive's latest announcement. If you're wondering why, let us tell you that they need more time to improve the game's performance and polish the user interface.

"We are delaying the release of GRID Autosport for iOS until autumn. This is about three months later than we had originally planned; apologies to all of you who have been waiting for this tasty slice of console-quality racing on mobile," said Feral Interactive. "With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll also be bringing GRID Autosport to select Android devices later this year."

That being said, we have all the reasons to believe that the Linux and SteamOS versions of GRID Autosport will be getting Vulkan support too, though Feral Interactive did not mention anything about it except for an intriguing tweet where they respond to a user asking if the Linux version will support Vulkan, saying "One race at a time." Fingers crossed!
