14 DAY TRIAL // The iPhone X might have the best OLED display ever made for a smartphone, but it looks like the very same tech is causing headaches to Apple, with more and more users reporting unexpected behavior on the device.
The most recent problem impacting the iPhone X display has a green line showing up on the right side of the screen for a reason that’s yet to be determined, with at least one user seeing the same line on the left side of the phone (the line is pictured in the photos below).
While at this point it’s not yet clear if this is a hardware or software issues, Apple Support chimed in on Twitter and confirmed the company is investigating, but without providing any other specifics as to what might be causing this problem.
Apple Store replacing some units
Apple, however, asked some of the affected customers whether they updated to the latest version of iOS 11, presumably as the company might be aware of the problem internally and the most recent operating system update introduced some fixes in this regard.
At this point, the good news is that the green line of death seems to be just an isolated issue and not all iPhone X units get it, though it’s not yet clear how the problem could be reproduced on other devices. Rebooting the iPhone X does not fix the problem and the same for powering off or resets.
A discussion on the Apple support forums regarding the green line issue has received 80 votes from people who presumably have the same issue, though this is by no means an indicator as to how many devices are affected. Apple hasn’t provided an official answer in the said discussion just yet.
For the time being, owners of iPhone X units showing the green line are recommended to get in touch with Apple, as there are reports that the Apple Store might offer replacement units if any are available. A statement from the company and an update is if this is a software issue should land sometime soon.
