14 DAY TRIAL // Google announced today that it brought a major update to its Gboard application on iOS, one that brings 15 additional languages, Google Doodles, new emoji, and the highly anticipated voice typing feature.
Today’s update brings 15 additional languages to Gboard for iPhone, including Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Catalan, Hungarian, Malay, Russian, Latin American Spanish, and Turkish. In order to access the new languages, users simply need to go to the Languages section and Add a language.
Google has also increased support for emojis, and Gboard now uses the whole spectrum of emojis from iOS 10. Moreover, the new update brings doodles to the Gboard, and Google uses these animations to mark important holidays and anniversaries. If a Doodle is available, then the G button would animate, allowing users to tap and open more information.
New voice-typing feature is available in Gboard
Today’s update also brings voice typing, which allows Gboard users to dictate messages and text directly inside the app, without having to enable the keyboard and actually type down the words. To activate voice-typing, users simply need to long press the mic button on the space bar. The update has started rolling out to iPhone users and it’s available in the App Store.
Gboard for Android already offers users the option of voice-typing and even glide typing, which lets you simply slide your finger from letter to letter in order to type faster. In addition, Gboard for Android supports over 120 languages and features emoji search and GIF support.
Google first introduced Gboard for iOS in May 2016, as an app that allows users to search and send information, GIFs, emojis and more from their keyboard. The app went global in July, and late last year, Google renamed its Keyboard app for Android into Gboard and brought new features and tools.
