14 DAY TRIAL // Google recently hosted a dedicated event in Brazil, during which the tech giant announced new ways to make technology work better for people and the Internet more inclusive. Therefore, Google announced new features for two of its popular apps.
Google Duo users in Brazil will be the first to enjoy a new audio calling feature, for moments when video calling isn’t an option. Therefore, users that have a poor network connection can contact their family and friends using the audio calling tool.
Duo’s audio calling feature should work well on all connection speeds and not take up too much data. The feature already started rolling out to users in Brazil and will see a global launch in the next few days.
Google Allo gets file sharing and Smart Smileys
Aside from Duo’s audio-only calling feature, Google also added a file sharing option to Allo users from all over the world. Allo Android users will now be able to share documents and various types of files, including PDF, music files and archives.
Users in Brazil get the ability to find the right emoji faster with the Smart Smileys feature, which uses machine learning. The icon is visible in the compose bar and Allo provides users with suggestions of emojis and stickers that would best fit the text that you’ve typed.
Moreover, Google introduced two new features for Google Photos on Android and iOS, to make it easier to back up and share files on low connectivity. Pictures will now be backed up automatically in a lightweight preview quality, and when a good WiFi connection is available, they get replaced with high-quality versions. The same principle is applied when sharing pictures.
Google also added a new location sharing feature in Google Maps, one that allows users to share their current location and even the estimated time of arrival when in navigation. Organizations and people in the US and Brazil can now access the application process for positing directly on Google.
