The update will hit compatible Nexus phones too

Google already released two Android O builds for a number of Pixel and Nexus smartphones, but it seems that the final version of the new mobile operating system will arrive later this summer, according to David Ruddock.

Google usually releases new Android versions in the fall, but it seems that the tech giant plans on launching the new version earlier this year. The official Android O update for Pixel smartphones will arrive in the first or second weeks of August.

The update will apparently be pushed over the air (OTA) and will arrive to Pixel and Nexus smartphones around the same time in August. The information apparently comes from a reliable source, but it’s good to take it with a grain of salt as such release dates are sometimes postponed due to unexpected issues.

Pixel 2 smartphones running Android O could arrive in October

Still, if Android O arrives in August, then Google will most likely release the upcoming Pixel 2 smartphones a month or two after that, possibly in October. Last year’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones were unveiled at the start of October and Google might follow the same timeline with Pixel 2 phones this year.

Android O has yet to receive an official name, but the new mobile OS version is expected to come with a feature that allows the proximity sensor to automatically turn off ambient display. It will also feature adaptive icons and new circular emojis to replace the gumdrop ones.

The upcoming Android version will also have a new copy and paste mode that allows users to simply double tap on text to select all. In addition, Android O comes with restrictions on background apps, which prevent certain applications from slowing down the device. Google is also bringing a picture-in-picture mode to Android O, allowing users to shrink videos or pages into a movable window and adjust the size and location of the app window on the display.
