During Google I/O 2016 last month, Google announced that it would introduce the Android N this summer and urged fans to submit their suggestions for the next version’s name. Now, it seems that Google is already analyzing all of those suggestions and will reveal the official moniker in a few weeks.

Google has taken to Twitter to the announcement saying that the submission period has ended, and the name will be unveiled in a few weeks. The company has posted a video on Twitter showing that basically anyone could come up with a great idea and has revealed some of the suggestions that people gave.

The #NameAndroidN campaign welcomed all suggestions on the name for the next Android N, but Google will most likely go with the name of a popular dessert, as it did in previous versions. Some of the most likely monikers could be Nutella or Nougat so that they would be recognizable around the globe. Nectar could also be a possibility.

The Android N name could be revealed at the end of June

A few weeks isn’t a specific timeframe, but it does give us an idea of when we’ll finally find out which dessert Android N will be named after.

It could also mean that the name would be disclosed as soon as the end of June. A final stable version of Android N should be introduced later in Q3, after Google makes available a couple of more preview releases in June and July. Google might announce the final name in the June preview of Android N, when APIs and SDK go final.

The first hint at the final name of an Android version is usually the arrival of a new statue on the Google campus. Afterward, Google usually releases a blog post and a landing page for the OS. Fast forward a few weeks, and the initial rollout of Android N should arrive on Nexus devices.
