In just a few hours, Google is expected to unveil two exciting smartphones, Pixel and Pixel XL, developed together with HTC. The devices will be announced during a highly anticipated event and many leaks from the past few days have revealed specs and images of the upcoming phones.

However, the event won’t consist solely of the Pixel and Pixel XL announcement. Google is also expected to reveal multiple other products, including a new Chromecast Ultra, Google Home Assistant, Google Wi-Fi Router, and the Daydream VR.

Google first referenced Daydream during its Google I/O event held in May this year. For those out of the loop, Daydream is Google’s own VR platform and Variety recently reported that the tech giant would launch the Daydream VR headset during today’s event.

The headset will be Google-branded, but manufactured by HTC. The device will work in the same fashion as other VR headsets available on the market, with the smartphone’s display inserted in the headset. However, the smartphone must be Daydream compatible, and the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones will most likely be.

Daydream VR headset will come with a white remote

Google has opted for providing Daydream VR headset with a white remote control, so the device won’t come with any controls on it. The remote has a round touchpad and two buttons on it, much like the buttons on other VR headsets.

Apparently, the Daydream VR headset will be sold for only $79, which means that it will have a lower price compared to Samsung’s new Gear VR, which sold for about $99 upon launch and came with USB Type-C to make it compatible with the Galaxy Note 7. Google’s Daydream VR will ship to customers later this month and other details will be revealed later.

Google will be hosting its highly anticipated event at 9AM PST, or 12PM EST, and the company will surely make some exciting announcements.
