Google has recently updated their Android Dashboard page to inform us about the relative number of devices running a certain version of the Linux-based Android mobile operating system.

According to the search giant, the above data was collected during an entire week based on the devices that visited the Google Play Store, and it ended on July 6, 2017. Also, the chart doesn't display versions of the Android OS that have less than 0.1% distribution.

The new data shows that the adoption of latest Android Nougat operating system reached a high of 11.5%, but only 0.9% of devices are running Android 7.1, as the rest of 10.5% still run Android 7.0. However, it looks like Android 6.0 Marshmallow is still king, running on 31.8% of the devices that visited Google Play store in the last week.

Almost one-quarter of devices run Android Lollipop

On the third place is Android Lollipop, which appears to run on 30,1% of the devices that are active on the market. From this, 22.3% of devices run Android 5.1 Lollipop and only 7.8% Android 5.0 Lollipop. But what should scare Google is that 17.1% of devices are still running the very old Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

The chart also shows us that Android Jelly Bean is still alive, running on 8,1% of the devices that visited Google Play Store in the last seven days when the data was collected by Google. Of this, 4.1% run Android 4.2.x, 2.8% run Android 4.1.x, and only 1.2% run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The last two places are occupied by Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream, Android 4.0.4 Sandwich, and the extremely old Android Gingerbread, versions 2.3.3 through 2.3.7, which run on 1.4% of devices. Google says that this information helps app developers prioritize their efforts for supporting different devices.

Also revealed in the chart is the Open GL version that the devices were running, showing that OpenGL ES 3.0 is used in almost half of them (45.1%), with OpenG ES 2.0 on the second place running on 38.4% of devices, and OpenGL ES 3.1 is last, powering only 16.5% of the devices.
