The monthly security update for Android devices has just arrived for the Nexus and Pixel devices, but this time it introduces some new features as well. If you've been rocking Google's new Pixel phones or one of the older Nexus phones, you'll be pleased to know that the factory images have just been released.

In case you don't know what factory image to download, here is a list of devices and their corresponding build numbers: Pixel (NDE63X, NDE63V, NDE63U), Pixel XL (NDE63X, NDE63V, NDE63U), Pixel C (NRD91N), Nexus 6P (NBD91K), Nexus 5X (NRD91N), Nexus 6 (MMB31C, MOB31K, NBD91P), Nexus Player (NRD91N), Nexus 9 LTE (NRD91N), Nexus 9 Wi-Fi (NRD91N).

This time, Google released different patches for some Nexus and Pixel devices. For example, the Pixel and Pixel XL's builds are Android 7.1 Nougat, but the rest are Android 7.0 Nougat. Also, it looks like the Nexus 6 also has a few patched builds that belong to Android Marshmallow.

Perhaps there were some issues that needed to be addressed with these builds, otherwise we can't see a logic reason for releasing them. It's also worth mentioning that Google released the OTA files as well.

Aside from the many security fixes the update contains, there are some new features that are enabled upon applying the patch. For the most part, they are available for the Pixel phones, but Nexus devices might receive some minor improvements too.

According to Verizon, the only carrier that offers the Pixel phones in the United States, the most recent update released by Google should bring message notification while connected to vehicle Bluetooth systems.

In addition, the update adds New Mexico as a state option during Wi-Fi Calling setup. Also, it enables Daydream View support for the Pixel phones.

If you plan to download and install these builds on your Pixel phone in the United States, then you should keep in mind that it will disable the workaround and allow users to unlock the Pixel phone sold through Verizon.
