If you’ve ever lived in a big city, you surely know the feeling of finding yourself at a loss when trying to navigate its intricate routes. Well, if you happen to be a New Delhi resident, Google has decided to give you a helping hand with finding your way around town by releasing a new transport navigation app.

Surely, Google Maps offers similar resources by providing users with public transport and transit options, but Delhi Public Transport Offline is the first application released by Google that’s targeted at a specific city. It will certainly prove to be a very useful application for travelers.

The software solution is currently available only for Android, and as the name indicates, it will deliver routes, timetables and directions for buses and metro in New Delhi. The best thing about this app is that it works in offline mode, so even if you don’t have mobile data or aren’t nearby a Wi-Fi connection, you’ll be able to check for routes and such.

More than that, users can save destinations so they can access the information in the future. The app will also deliver information related to delays and other news, but you’ll need an Internet connection for this, though.

More similar apps incoming?

The Delhi Public Transport Offline app has been designed by Google as an experiment in order to help travelers and commuters residing in the Indian capital. It’s unclear at this point whether the tech giant has plans of developing more applications of this sort covering the transport infrastructure of other cities across the globe.

According to Google itself, India is one of the fastest growing countries in terms of Google Maps usage, so developing a separate, more specific app made sense for the company. The app will use the same Transit data for DMRC metro, DTC buses, DIMTS (Orange) buses and Gurgaon Rapid Metro as Google Maps.

If you like the app, you can share your feedback with the Google Maps team by tapping on the button at the top of the app. Your input might help make the application even better in the future.
