Google announced a few moments ago the promotion of the Chrome 58 web browser to the stable channel for all supported platforms, including GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows.

After being first promoted to the Beta channel earlier today, Chrome 58.0.3029.81 is now the latest stable release of the popular web browser from Google, bringing a number of fixes and improvements like full support for the IndexedDB 2.0 standard, improvements to iframe navigation, and full-screen support for PWAs (Progressive Web Apps) on Android.

"The IndexedDB 2.0 standard is now fully supported in Chrome, making it simpler to work with large data sets in the browser. IDB 2.0 features new schema management, bulk action methods, and more standardized handling of failures," reads the Chromium Blog. "Now PWAs can provide a fully immersive experience by setting display: fullscreen in their web app manifest, which hides non-app UI when the site is launched from the home screen."

29 security fixes included in Chrome 58

A total of 29 security fixes are included in Google Chrome 58, addressing type confusions in the PDFium and Blink components, a couple of URL spoofing issues in Omnibox, a use after free in Chrome Apps and Blink, a heap use after free in Print Preview, a heap overflow in Skia, incorrect UI in Blink, and incorrect signature handing in Networking. More details are found on the announcement page.

A number of other features, mostly related to developers, are included in this release, along with a bunch of deprecations and interoperability improvements that you can read all about in the release notes. In the meantime, you can download Google Chrome 58.0.3029.81 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows right now from our website.
