Google has promoted the Chrome 59 branch of the popular web browser to the stable channel for all supported platforms, including GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows.

Google Chrome 59.0.3071.86 is now the latest stable release of the web browser, which contains a total of 30 security fixes and various improvements, such as a revamped Chrome Settings page that now uses Google's beautiful and modern Material Design.

"The Chrome team is delighted to announce the promotion of Chrome 59 to the stable channel for Windows, Mac and Linux. This will roll out over the coming days/weeks," says Abdul Syed. "Chrome Settings has updated to Material Design with a slick new look with the same ease of use and functionality."

Headless Chromium, native notifications on macOS

Among other features implemented in the Google Chrome 59 stable release, we can mention support for native notifications on the macOS platform, service worker navigation preload, and a Headless Chrome functionality that lets both Chrome and Chromium run in an automated environment without a UI or peripherals.

Powered by modern web platform features, the Headless Chromium/Chrome functionality is now supported on Linux and Mac platforms, and it's coming soon to Microsoft Windows. There are various other small changes included in Google Chrome 59, so be sure to check the changelog attached below for more details.

As for the security fixes, Google Chrome 59 patches a type confusion and an out of bounds read in the V8 engine, several address spoofing issues in Omnibox, a use-after-free in the print preview and Apps Bluetooth, an information leak in CSP reporting, a heap buffer overflow in Skia, and UI spoofing bugs in the Blink engine.

An insufficient hardening issue in the credit card editor was addressed as well, along with a use-after-free vulnerability in the credit card autofill, an extension verification bypass issue, and an inappropriate JavaScript execution in WebUI. Google Chrome 59 is available for download for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows.
