14 DAY TRIAL // Google Play Instant is a new service that allows users to try out games before installing them, making it easier to decide.
Google Play Instant is now a feature in the existing Google Play Games app, and it gives people much more freedom when it comes to getting new games. It might not seem like a big deal, especially for users that don’t care about the data consumed, but it’s the kind of thing that’s going to be appreciated.
The ability to try out an application before downloading is not something new for the Google Play Store. A couple of years ago, Google launched Instant Apps which did exactly that, but apps are much easier to integrate than games.
We might not have to download at all in the future
It’s possible that Google’s ultimate goal is to remove the installation process entirely from Android, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon. For that, all Android users should have constant access to the Internet, and at good speeds, not to mention that it should be very cheap. If we also take into consideration that people might be in an area without service, then we realize just how far away this would be in the future.
In the meantime, Google allows users to try out a number of games. Unfortunately, this is not the kind of feature that lets users try out any game in the store, just a select few. It’s likely that more games will be added, and maybe it’s going to be something that any developer can implement for its own title.
“With Google Play Instant, you can just tap and try a game without having to download it first—whether you’re looking to storm a castle on Clash Royale or become a wordmaster with Words with Friends 2. Google Play Instant experiences will be available in the Google Play store, the Google Play Games app, or wherever game links are shared,” reads the official announcement.
A keen eye will also notice that no ads are displayed when playing in this mode, so it’s not really a fair preview of the game.
