Google cuts Pixel prices ahead of second generation debut

There’s no better time to buy Google’s Pixel, as the device has just received a major discount, most likely in anticipation of the second-generation launch expected to take place in the fall.

Specifically, the 5-inch Google Pixel now costs only $524 in Google’s own store, while the bigger 5.5-inch Google Pixel XL can be purchased for $569. Both are the base configurations with 32GB storage, and choosing the 128GB version adds another $100 to the final price tag.

Additionally, Google also offers 2-year device protection for another $100, as well as some financing options should you agree with $27.88 per month payments for the next 24 months.

At the time of writing this article, all configurations are up for grabs, with just one exception: the 32GB Google Pixel with 5-inch display in Very Silver color is no longer available, but you can join the waitlist and receive a notification when it’s back in stock.

As affordable as a Windows phone

Thanks to this discount, the super-powerful Google Pixel becomes nearly as affordable as the HP Elite X3, which at this point is the most powerful Windows phone on the market (not that there are too many options to choose from).

The HP Elite X3 bundle can be purchased for $500 from the Microsoft Store, down from $799, and in addition to the smartphone, you also receive an HP Elite X3 desk dock that lets you connect the device to a bigger screen and work just like on a Windows PC with the help of Continuum.

There’s no doubt, however, that many more buyers would take advantage of Google’s offer rather than of Microsoft’s, especially because the Pixel is currently one of the best smartphones on the market.

The second generation is expected at some point in the fall, and leaks have shown that unlike Samsung and Apple, Google wants to stick with a similar design with large bezels, rather than go for a full-display approach like its rivals.
