While all the eyes seem to be on the iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 these days, Google is also working at full speed on getting the Pixel 2 ready for launch, and a new report claims to reveal more about the new models.

The Google Pixel 2 will come with two different models just like the current generation – there were rumors that a third version was also planned, but if we are to trust this new report, this isn’t the case.

The two models will be called Taimen and Walleye, and this isn’t the first time these codenames make the rounds, which adds to the legitimacy of the leak.

XDA Developers says the debut of the new phones is projected to take place in September or October, which means Google is targeting the same timeframe for its new phones like Apple and Google. The iPhone 8 is very likely to see daylight in early September, while reports from people close to the matter indicated the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is due in the second half of September.

Google Pixel 2 “Taimen”

Codenamed Taimen, the successor to Google Pixel XL will go down the same road as Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8, as it’ll feature a bigger display with narrower bezels. The device will most likely boast a 5.99-inch 1440p OLED LG display, but with smaller bezels, so the overall dimensions of the device might not be much changed.

Power will come from the Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB RAM. 128GB storage will be offered, though there’s a good chance that some other options will be offered.

What’s also very interesting is that Google wants to continue using a combination of glass and metal for the back and the company will keep the headphone jack, with bigger changes in this regard coming to the smaller sibling.

Google Pixel 2 “Walleye”

The smaller model is called Google Pixel Walleye and will come with a 4.97-inch 1080p display featuring the same bezels as the current model. Even though that might sound disappointing at first, this is part of Google’s plans of integrating more tech into the device, with the phone to also include front-facing speakers right where the bezels currently reside.

Surprisingly, however, this version won’t include a headphone jack, so while you’ll get stereo speakers, you won’t be able to plug in a 3.5mm pair of headphones.

The device will also be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chip with 4GB RAM, and a 64GB storage option is mentioned, though once again other options are expected.
