Google promised to bring many new features to its Photos application, on both Android and iOS platform. The former has already been updated to most of the promised features, but iOS users had to wait a while longer.

Today, the search giant has announced that Google Photos for iOS has been updated with a few new features and improvements. Unfortunately, Chromecast support is not among the improvements included in this update.

According to the official changelog, a few new features has been implemented for users in the US. For example, in Search, users will now be able to label and merge people groupings.

Once labeled, you will be able to easily search for people, or combine people, place, and thing search terms for even more precise results, such as “Juliana at beach in Hawaii.” Once again, these feature are not available outside US.

But that's not all. Google also confirmed they have made it possible for users to share animations directly to WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Obviously, they will remain animated after being shared through any of the two applications.

Chromecast support is promised in a future update

Developers also announced that with the latest update, Google Photos should feature a faster startup. It contains some bug fixes and other photo-tastic performance improvements, which haven't been detailed yet.

According to Google, Chromecast support for iOS will be available soon, so don't be surprised if the new feature will be added in the next update.

These are all the changes included in version 1.4, so if you already have the application installed on your iOS devices, make sure to update to the new Photos app released by Google.

You can now download Google Photos for iOS for free via App Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running iOS 8.1 or later.
