Google announced today that its long-anticipated Google Pay payment service is now rolling out to supported devices as a drop-in replacement for the Android Pay and Google Wallet services.

Whether you'll be shopping online or in stores, you can now rely on the new Google Pay app for your Android smartphone, which started rolling out to all of Google's products today. Google Pay provides all the features that you've enjoyed in the Android Pay and Google Wallet apps, and much more.

It offers a new Home tab that displays all the information you need about your credit or debit cards, recent purchases, nearby stores, rewards, and even some helpful tips to get you started faster. With Google Pay, the search giant promises to offer a consistent checkout experience to all Android and Chrome users.

The application also features a Cards tab where you'll see everything about stored credit and debit cards, gift cards, as well as loyalty programs. It even shows previously used gift cards, such as those from your last birthday. On top of that, Google Pay can be used as a replacement for your transit pass in select cities like London, Portland, and Kiev.

"We’re also working with partners online and in stores, so you’ll see Google Pay on sites, in apps, and at your favorite places around the world," says Google. "You’ll still get all your bank’s perks and protections, plus an extra layer of security, since Google Pay doesn’t share your actual card number when you pay in stores."

Google promises to offer state-of-the-art security and encryption

Google says that its new Google Pay app offers users the most robust security and encryption layers of protection to safeguard your personal information and bank account, and to keep your digital wallet from any types of security threats. Google Pay will have the same layer of security as all of Google's products, says the company.

Google Pay is rolling out today to Android devices in the U.S. and the UK via Google Play store, and Google promises to add more features in the coming months, such as the ability to send and request money, just like Apple Pay. Please note that the old Google Wallet app has been renamed to Google Pay Send.
