Google Maps will support Apple Watch again “in the future”

Apple Watch has lost support from some of the biggest applications in the App Store, including Google Maps, Amazon and eBay, according to a report. The latest updates to these three apps, which arrived in late April, excluded Apple Watch support.

While using Apple Watch to shop on Amazon doesn’t seem that comfortable, the eBay app can prove quite useful on the wrist for tracking bid statuses or simply checking recent notifications. Google Maps is surely one of the most useful apps on Apple Watch, since it allows users to get directions when out and about, or search for a certain location.

But these aren’t the only apps that dropped Apple Watch support; the main Target app can no longer run on watchOS either. However, Target’s Cartwheel app still works and it allows users to get deals, check discounts and save things that they already buy at Target.

Apple Watch support will return to Google Maps

Fortunately, Google has stated that it intends to bring Apple Watch support back, but didn’t reveal when that would happen. Google stated, "We removed Apple Watch support from our latest iOS release but expect to support it again in the future."

But the tech giant didn’t reveal the reason why the update didn’t include watchOS integration. Google Maps on Apple Watch allowed users to receive walking and transit directions for recently visited places or get turn-by-turn driving instructions. Nonetheless, the app had some shortcomings, including the fact that it didn’t show a conventional map view.

However, it’s quite unlikely that integration for Amazon and eBay’s apps will return anytime soon, considering that users can check out many more features on their iPhones rather than use apps to shop online and browse through products. The fact that Google intends to bring back support means that some people were keen on using Google Maps on their Apple Watches.
