Google released today the third and last planned Android P Developer Preview for Pixel devices, as well as top smartphones from its partners.

Coming less than a month after the second Developer Preview, the Android P Developer Preview 3 (API Level 28) is now available to install on supported devices dedicated to development and testing of Android applications for Google's upcoming Android P a.k.a. Android 9 mobile operating system.

The Android P Developer Preview 3 includes finalized APIs and SDK (Software Development Kit) and can be installed via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates on the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel XL 2 smartphones. Factory images are also available for download for those who prefer a manual installation.

Thanks to Google's Project Treble, there are a bunch of devices enrolled into the Android P Beta program, among which we can mention the Essential Phone, Nokia 7 Plus, OnePlus 6, Oppo R15 Pro, Sony Xperia XZ2, Vivo X21UD, Vivo X21, and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. Check out the official support site for more details on how to install Android P Beta.

Final Android P release to be announced in August 2018

Android P promises to be a major release of Google's Android mobile operating system that introduces a plethora of new features and enhancements, among which we can mention redesigned Quick Settings and Storage Settings, notification dots on the home screen, enhanced battery management options, and new developer options.

Other noteworthy Android P features include support for notch designs, which most Android phone manufacturers adopted lately, dual camera support, indoor tracking, an enhanced messaging experience, new broadcast intent types, support for external USB and UVC cameras, and HDR VP9 Profile 2 video codec support.

More of Android P's features will be unveiled by Google in August, when the final release is expected to hit the streets. There's no official date set in stone at the moment of writing, but now that the third Developer Preview is out, it's only a matter of time until Google releases the final version, which could be versioned as Android 9.0.
