17 more Chromebooks can now run Android apps

Google continues to keep on its promise to bring support for Android apps to older Chromebook models, and it recently expanded Android apps support to 17 more Chromebook systems.

Support for running Android apps is currently limited to newer Chromebooks and some older models that Google updated earlier this summer, about 31 of them, and it now updates the "Chrome OS Systems Supporting Android Apps" wiki page once again with support for seventeen other Chromebooks.

In other words, users of the Chromebook models listed below can now (finally) use Android apps that they can install from the official Google Play store. However, it should be noted that some Chromebooks only support Android apps via the Chrome OS Beta channel, but it's very easy to switch to it.

Here's which Chromebooks can now run Android apps

Chromebooks that support Android apps via the Chrome OS Stable channel include Acer Chromebook 14 (CB3-431), Acer Chromebook 15 (CB3-532), CTL J2 / J4 Chromebook, eduGear Chromebook K Series, eduGear Chromebook M Series, Haier Chromebook 11e, HiSense Chromebook 11, and HP Chromebook 11 G5.

Additionally, the Medion Chromebook S2015, NComputing Chromebook CX100, Nexian Chromebook 11.6", PCMerge Chromebook PCM-116E, Prowise Chromebook Entryline, Poin2 Chromebook 11, Positivo Chromebook CH1190, Sector 5 E1 Rugged Chromebook, and Viglen Chromebook 11 models now support Android apps too.

The list isn't long, indeed, but it's good news that Google's Chrome OS engineers are working hard to bring support for Andriod apps to more Chromebooks, yet the list of planned devices is quite long and includes some very popular models like the Acer Chromebook 11 (C740), which we happen to own one.

If you don't see you Chromebook in the list of supported devices above it means that you'll have to wait a little longer. Let's hope Google will speed up the Google Play store and Android apps support expansion to more models until the end of the year, otherwise people will find alternatives from Apple or Microsoft.
