After the success of Google Chromecast and how well it integrated into people's homes thanks to its ability to turn dumb TVs into smart ones, Google decided to work on its next Chromecast iteration with improved features.

Apparently, Google is working on a new, revised dongle that features an improved design and, obviously, faster components. However, calling it a "dongle" would be a bit out of fashion since the shape suggests something completely different.

The recent rumors have emerged from leaked documents that mention different color options, and improved WiFi performance and a new mysterious feature called "Fast Play." To increase its popularity, there will also be a new homepage and more customization options for the device.

Although officially called the "new Chromecast," the 2nd generation Chromecast or Chromecast 2 will also apparently include support for content feeds on the Chromecast home screen.

Even though it is unknown exactly what feeds users would get on their Chromecast screens, they will very likely be related to some social networking or pictures that Chromecast will get online when it is in "backdrop mode." This feature already exists in present Chromecast devices to project either weather or art as backdrop when idle, but the new device will probably add new info in this display mode.

New Chromecast comes with the new music-oriented "Hendrix"

According to 9to5google, the new "Fast Play" feature may consist in allowing Chromecast to establish a connection more quickly and play online content more seamlessly when pressing the "Cast" button on some connected device. The issue concerning connectivity on Chromecast devices is known by Google, and they will try to fix it in this next model.

In addition, Google plans to launch Chromecast Audio or "Hendrix," which is a separate device that will allow your Chromecast to plug directly into any speaker or audio speaker in your home via an auxiliary cord, thus providing Chromecast support to any speaker or audio system you may have. This new feature will apparently have multi-room support, you'll be able to mirror your Chrome or Android audio, and it brings “high-quality” audio.

Both devices will be launched next week on September 29 at an event organized by Google.
