14 DAY TRIAL // Following this month’s update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat, some Pixel owners have reported issues with the Double-tap to Wake feature, and Google is now reportedly working on a fix for the issue.
The Double-tap to Wake feature doesn’t work consistently when the power saving feature, Doze, is on.
Doze allows the phone to disconnect applications from running in the background after a period of inactivity. This helps improve battery life and increases standby time overall. Users simply need to move the phone around to turn off Doze. The Double-tap to Wake feature helps users check notifications and wake up the phone with a simple gesture.
Some Pixel users reported on Google Product Forums that they must first move the phone and then tap the screen in order to wake. In other words, when the Doze feature is on, they need to perform two separate actions to wake the phone, instead of one.
It doesn’t seem like much, but it’s certainly an inconvenience seeing how the Double-tap feature was supposed to make it easier to check notifications and not require many gestures. Users have also reported that the feature plainly doesn’t work sometimes or has a 2-second delay after the phone locks.
Google reps are working on a fix
Google representatives stated on the Product Forums that they’re working on a fix, but it’s unknown when that will be released. Another issue that Google is reportedly trying to fix is the static sound output on Pixel phones. A few days ago, we reported that Pixel smartphones were having audio issues when the volume was set to the highest three levels.
The audio output is quite distorted, an issue that isn’t found on Nexus 6P phones. There’s a workaround available that involves flashing custom ROMs on the smartphone, but it’s a rather complicated method that could void the phone’s warranty. Google acknowledged the issue and might push out a fix soon.
