Google delayed the release of the new version of Hangouts for about a week, but now that the application has been finally released, we can talk about the new changes it brings to Android users.

Hangouts 4.0 is a huge step forward for the development of the application, since it should now run much faster and offer a much simpler interface.

“The best conversations just flow: you barely have to think about what to say. With Hangouts, we want to help you stay in the moment, no matter what device you’re using or how you’re getting your voice across, from texting to talking to video.

“So we’ve been hard at work on big improvements to make Hangouts faster, simpler, and easier on the eyes,” says Google in a blog post.

So, the first thing Android users will notice when opening Hangouts 4.0 is the fresh new look, as well as the improved speed. However, some new features have been added as well.

Google promises better battery consumption

With the new material design look, Hangouts 4.0 should now offer more intuitive ways to interact with others, along with improved fluidity between task transitions.

A new Compose button has been added, which is meant to make it easier for Android users to start new groups or conversations. The streamlined contact list should also help users find the person they are looking for faster and more easily.

Also, Google confirmed that attachments have been revamped and simplified, which means sharing of emoji, GIFs, locations and multiple photos can be done more quickly.

Another new feature included in Hangouts 4.0 is called Outbound Caller ID, which allows users to make affordable calls from Hangouts Dialer.

Last but not least, the latest version of Hangouts has a lot of bug fixes and improved speed, which should make message delivery faster and more reliable. Google also mentions that Hangouts 4.0 now consumes much less battery.
