Google Chrome Beta now runs flawlessly on Windows 10

If you're an avid Windows 10 tester, you most likely know that, in build 10525, which was the first version that Microsoft released to insiders after RTM, Google Chrome browser was affected by a bug that made it completely unusable on PCs running this version.

Google moved fast after the first reports reached the web and fixed the bug in Chrome Canary, the nightly version of the browser, which is used by those who want to have an early look at the feature lineup of the application.

The nightly builds of Chrome are specifically supposed to be tested by experienced users who can help the company diagnose and fix bugs, so it's pretty clear that Google had to make that fix available to more users.

So today, the company has introduced the same fix in the beta version of Chrome, which means that more users should have access to it - a fix for the stable browser is not yet available though.

Microsoft's memory handling tweaks at fault

The changes that Microsoft made in Windows 10 build 10525 for more effective handling of memory impacted Google Chrome, and according to an engineer working for the Mountain View-based search company, the bug is now fixed once and for all.

For the tech-savvy readers, here's Google's explanation in full:

“I'm going to closing this out for comments, since the specific issue here is fixed and there will be no future work on this bug. For the small number of people asking why Chrome checks signatures on the 64-bit syscall stubs, it's because doing so significantly mitigates issues from third-party software hooking inside Chrome's sandboxed processes.”

“Whereas on 32-bit Windows we're forced to use much more permissive hooking, and as a result we see far more issues due to malfunctioning third-party software such as AV or other utilities that: break ASLR, leak privileged objects, or just introduce general instability that leads to very high crash rates inside our sandboxed processes.”

Obviously, if you're already on Windows 10 and are impacted by this bug, you can always download the latest version of Google Chrome from Softpedia.
