Two more months have been added to the original deadline

The security support for both the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X from Google was until extended November 2018, adding two months to the previous date.

Since Android is the most used mobile operating system in the world, it also stands to reason that it’s also the most attacked. The only way to prevent security problems on mobile devices is to keep them updated, and this is exactly what Google is doing.

Up until now, the support for both the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X was “until” September 2018, but it has been extended until November 2018, adding two more months. This can only be a good thing for Nexus users, who can hold on their devices a little bit longer.

Don’t mistake security support with software support

It’s important to keep in mind that security support only refers to patches and nothing else. The software support has ended in September 2017, which means that no new version of the OS will be provided after this date.

Both the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X mobile devices were received quite well by fans, but they also had quite a few problems. The battery in a few Nexus 6P bricked the phones, and Google offered to replace them with the newer Google Pixel in some countries.

On the other hand, the Nexus 5X proved to be just as problematic, with the famous bootloop error affecting quite a few people. Even so, it’s difficult to deny the success of the two phones.

Also, we also have to remember that Google launched Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X back in September 2015. This means that the support for them will end three years later, and that’s not back at all.

Now, if we could only convince all the other phone makers to extend the same kind of security support to their devices, it would be a different world.
