The browser will continue to use its own notification system

Google has no plans to update Chrome in order to provide notifications in Windows 10's new action center, a company engineer has said, so the browser will continue to use its very own notification system instead of the new one bundled by Microsoft in its operating system.

As Neowin is reporting, feature requests posted on Google Code called for the Mountain View-based search giant to add support for Windows 10's notification system and thus provide notifications that are directly integrated into the operating system.

But in a response offered today, a company engineer says this option has already been considered within the development team and it won't be added anytime soon because it could create more confusion among developers who need to create extensions for just one notification system.

“Maybe in a few years”

With a new notification system, Chrome would behave differently on Windows 10, the Google engineer explains, so it's hard for developers to create extensions that would work correctly on all Windows versions.

He has admitted, however, that this option could be reconsidered at a later time, when Windows 10's market share increases.

In a detailed post published after several Chrome users criticized Google for its decision, the very same engineer goes on to say that notifications systems come with different options, so Chrome's is different from the one in Windows 10 because it is fully interactive and allows us to perform a number of actions straight from the notification.

“On Win 10, using the native notification system would mean that all notification could show briefly before disappearing but they could also not show, depending on a user setting. All notifications would show as coming from Chrome,” he adds.

“They would not be actionable, and so on. As a developer, it makes quite a difference if I design something that allows users to take an action or something that merely informs them and whether it will be a pop up or a silent addition to the notification center.”

Besides the notification system, the browser works quite well on Windows 10, so if you're looking to give it a try, download Google Chrome here.
