Google’s Maps app for Android already has a feature for providing users with access to information regarding their hereabouts at a certain time, and Google is now bringing the new tool to iOS users as well.

The new Timeline feature has already started rolling out to Maps users on iOS and it will allow them to “see a daily snapshot of their life.” Google has also added ways for users to control the information that appears in their Timeline and edit any location so that the information is as accurate as possible.

Moreover, users can delete a certain day from the Timeline, a certain date range or even the entire history at any time. In addition, the company offers users the option to completely disable the Timeline feature and stop Maps from tracking their location, for those who don’t wish to share their current location with Google at all times.

The Timeline feature also comes with a variety of activity types that allow users to customize the modes of transportation and activities, including surfing or horseback riding. Access to Timeline is granted easily, while Google Maps can also provide users with emails containing the cities, countries and places that they’ve visited. A toggle allows users to turn the feature on or off.

Through this move, Google wishes to provide a full-fledged experience to its Maps users, regardless of the platform that they’re accessing. The new Timeline feature comes after Google added a whole new option for users to share their location in real-time and send an ETA to friends who are possibly waiting for them in a certain location.

Timeline access and information about visited places is available only to the user, no one else gets access to it unless a certain location is shared, which is why it certainly is a good idea to secure Google accounts and make sure that no one else gets access to the password.
