Today, August 18, Google had the great pleasure of revealing its latest product, OnHub, a router powered by a Linux kernel-based operating system and designed from the ground up to provide home users with a next-generation Wi-Fi network.

Promising to offer you the fastest Wi-Fi connection always, OnHub has been designed for demanding video and audio environments, so you can enjoy your favorite multimedia content at all time without interruptions wherever you are in your home. It's capable of prioritizing certain devices that require fast Internet connections.

"Meet OnHub. A router for the new way to Wi-Fi. We’re streaming and sharing in new ways our old routers were never built to handle. Meet OnHub, a new router from Google that’s built for all the ways you Wi-Fi," reads the product's page.

Weighing only 1.9lb (0.86 Kg), OnHub has a futuristic profile that measures only 7.5" (19 cm) tall and 4.6" (11.6 cm) in diameter. It is available in blue or black colors and boasts an IPQ8064 Dual Core CPU running at 1.4GHz, 1GB DDR3L RAM, 8MB NOR flash, 4GB e-MMC flash storage, one USB 3.0 port, a 3W speaker, six tri-color arrays LEDs, and an ambient light sensor.

Networking related, OnHub supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless networks thanks to the built-in 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/n/ac 3x3 smart antennas. It also sports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac auxiliary wireless network, a QCA8337 Gigabit Ethernet switch, one 10/100/1000 Mbps WAN port, and one 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN port.

Being compatible with the WPA2-PSK wireless security protocol, OnHub is compatible with the ZigBee/Thread IEEE 802.15.4 wireless protocol and the Bluetooth 4.0 technology for fast connectivity of wireless devices. OnHub operates on non-condensing environments with 0-90% humidity and 0-40°C temperature.

Please keep in mind that the OnHub router requires an initial setup that can be done only with the Google On app for devices running either the iOS 7 or later or Android 4.0 or higher mobile operating systems. The price starts at $199.99 (approximately €180) and can be pre-ordered right now from Google Store, Amazon, Walmart, Newegg, Frys, or TP-Link Store.
