14 DAY TRIAL // Google Maps is definitely one of the biggest and most popular applications offered by the giant company, and it seems that Google has decided to make some major changes to it. The Google Maps update to v9.36.0 has already started rolling out.
Google has updated its Maps application with some small features for regular users and major changes for those in the Local Guides program. The application will now allow Local Guides members to create custom lists of saved places.
Users will now be able to create lists with places that they want to save and put entries in custom lists, not just keep them under Your Places section. Google offers three default lists, namely Favorites, Want to go, and Starred places. What's more, it is believed that the company intends to make lists available to many other users as well, but for now, the only way to use the lists feature is to sign up to become a Local Guide and write reviews, answer questions or submit pictures.
But the new update isn't limited to just lists, as users will be able to check out a new feature that allows them to get traffic information based on their current location. It is called Traffic Nearby, and it's found under the Notifications section.
Google Maps now comes with voice commands for avoiding highways
Google has also introduced voice commands for users to avoid tolls, ferries, and highways. Maps already has a tool that helps users avoid ferries, toll roads, and highways, but it must be set at the start of every navigation session, without having the option to disable or enable the feature later on.
Voice commands will help users avoid highways and toll roads, by simply voicing out the phrases Avoid toll roads, Avoid ferries or Avoid highways. Maps application will then reroute users, even if the navigation session has already started.
The new version of Google Maps has started rolling out for Android users, and Google has mentioned that it will be made available to iOS and web users as well.
