Martyn Russell, the developer of the Tracker semantic data storage software for desktop and mobile devices used by default on the GNOME desktop environment, announced the release of the first maintenance version for Tracker 1.4.

According to the release notes attached at the end of this article, Tracker 1.4.1 brings with it numerous interesting improvements, such as the removal of ModulePath from the comic/ebook rules in the tracker-extract component, usage of a new command-line tool in tracker-preferences, and usage of embedded album art if it is available.

The bash-completion script has been moved to a new location and greatly improved to work on real files for various arguments, inotify limits have been set for "GInotifyFileBackend" in libtracker-miner due to changes in the upstream GLib project, missing strings have been marked for translation.

Moreover, Tracker 1.4.1 resets the retry counter when parents need to be prepended in tracker-miner-fs, falls back to preview image for album art in tracker-extract-gstreamer, relys on GstDiscoverer rather than mimetype sniffing in tracker-extract-gstreamer, and support for handling multiple dc:identifier tags for EPUB files.

Many issues have been resolved in Tracker 1.4.1

As expected, there are many issues resolved in Tracker 1.4.1, such as problems with the man page syntax for tracker-sparql.1, GNOME Shell search tracker-miner-fs warnings that occurred on a new tracker database, and various typos in the documentation. Additionally, tracker-preferences will no longer call tracker-control, and the libtracker-miner has been patched to keep a monitor on the root index tree files after deletion.

Last but not least, the Bulgarian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese Brazilian, and Slovenian language translations have been updated in this first maintenance release of Tracker 1.4.

Download Tracker 1.4.1 sources right now from Softpedia or update it on your GNU/Linux distribution via the official channels.
