The GNOME Project prepares to unleash the first of two point releases for their latest and most advanced GNOME 3 desktop environment, version 3.22.1, so they're currently updating various core components and applications.

GNOME 3.22 was officially unveiled last month, on September 21, 2016, and it brought numerous interesting new features and improvements. The first point release, GNOME 3.22.1, should improve your GNOME 3.22 experience, as well as fix some of those annoying issues that you've reported lately.

Florian Müllner announced today, October 11, 2016, the release of the GNOME Shell 3.22.1 user interface and Mutter 3.22.1 window and compositing manager, both of which add better feedback loop between StClipboard and the X11 bridge, and improved support for Flatpak apps.

Wayland improvements in Mutter, more bug fixes

The hidden network indicator that appears at startup should now work correctly in GNOME Shell 3.22.1, along with the order of windows with modal dialogs in the window switcher. On the other hand, Mutter 3.22.1 promises to fallback gracefully each time the DRM plane rotation fails, and approximate the native monitor backend behavior to X11.

Last but not least, Mutter 3.22.1 patches a crash that occurred when attempting to switch the virtual terminal (VT) on top of a Wayland session. Various language translations have been updated as well in the new GNOME Shell 3.22.1 and Mutter 3.22.1 maintenance versions, which you can download right now via our website.

As mentioned before, the GNOME 3.22.1 desktop environment should be released tomorrow, October 12, 2016, at least according to the official release schedule. The second one for this cycle, GNOME 3.22.2, will be unveiled next month, on November 9, with more improvements and bug fixes. Stay tuned for more details about the GNOME 3.22.1 release soon!
