14 DAY TRIAL // The sixth snapshot towards Rygel 0.28 Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) media server software has been announced on September 14, 2015, and it is available for download and testing as we speak.
Rygel 0.27.6 has been seeded to testers worldwide as part of the upcoming GNOME 3.18 RC (Release Candidate) desktop environment, due for release on September 16, 2015. It brings fixes for some of the most important issues reported by users since the previous development version of the software, and adds various under-the-hood improvements that will prepare Rygel for the next major stable release.
Among these, we can mention a fix for a database regression that has been introduced in a previous version and caused the exec() function to execute only the first query of a list of ";"-separated queries, a fix for two Media-Export issues related to the extration of disabled metadata and DIDL_S playlists, as well as the removal and simplification of the accidental debug warnings in Media-Export.
WMV support has been removed from Rygel
In the Mediathek area, Rygel 0.27.6 introduces a new default feed, as the old one is no longer available, addresses an automatic resource generation issue, and removes support for the Windows Media Video (WMV) format because it is no longer supported upstream, which causes issues in Rygel's MP4 support. As such, the developers will have to find a workaround for RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) to make it usable again for all renderers.
As usual, a number of bugs have been fixed in this release, along with updates to the Finnish, French, Hungarian, Korean, and Lithuanian language translations. Those of you who want to take this development release of the Rygel media server for a test drive can download the Rygel 0.27.6 sources right now from Softpedia. Just keep in mind that it's a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
