Debarshi Ray, maintainer of the GNOME Photos application, open-source image viewer and organizer software for the GNOME desktop environment, has announced the release of GNOME Photos 3.19.1.

Believe it or not, the development cycle of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment has started, and the GNOME developers are preparing to release the first development milestone, GNOME 3.19.1, in the coming days, which means that numerous core components and applications have received updates as well.

GNOME Photos is one of those GNOME apps that have been updated for the soon-to-be-released GNOME 3.19.1 desktop environment, and according to the release notes attached at the end of the article, it's mostly a bugfix build that addresses many annoying issues reported by users since the previous version of the software.

"A simple application to access, organize and share your photos on GNOME. It is meant to be a simple and elegant replacement for using a file manager to deal with photos. Seamless cloud integration is offered through GNOME Online Accounts," says Debarshi Ray.

What has been fixed in GNOME Photos 3.19.1

Among the changes implemented in GNOME Photos 3.19.1, we can mention the renaming of the "Recent" view to "Photos," the merging of the PhotosModeController class into the PhotosItemManager one, support for deleting photos from the preview, as well as a patch for a background issue with GdTaggedEntry tags.

The application will no longer attempt to load more items than there are, can handle the fullscreen and unfullscreen operations of the window manager, adds missing pagination buttons during the preview of search results, and no longer starts numerous miners during usage of the search provider.

Moreover, GNOME Photos is a lot more compatible with DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) renderers, removes the redundant toolbar that appears when disabling the App Menu, uses unfilled and filled icons as replacements for the colored star button, and simplifies the state of the signal and changes emissions.

Last but not least, the Czech, Portuguese, and Swedish language translations have been updated. You can download GNOME Photos 3.19.1 right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which contains unresolved issues and it's not recommended for deployment on production machines.
