The GNOME development team works hard these days to bring us the fourth milestone towards the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment, and they have updated several components with new features and bugfixes.

In this article, we would like to share with you some of the improvements that have been implemented in version 3.19.4 of the GNOME Music app, the default music player used in GNOME. According to the internal changelog (attached below for reference), it fixes over 20 issues reported by users since the previous release.

Therefore, among the changes added in GNOME Music 3.19.4, we can notice that the application will use Grilo 0.3 for the final release of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment, the method employed for connecting to the menu actions has been refactored, and the GtkApplication widget automatically loads the AppMenu.

Deprecation warnings have been fixed for the GTK+ support, the libgd dependency has been updated to the master branch, it is now possible to scale the playlist name to match the mockups, search find strings can now use accents, a symbolic icon has been added, and Tracker 1.7.1 or later is now required.

GIO async APIs are now used for fetching cover art

GNOME Music 3.19.4 also makes use of the path of the filter model for displaying search results, uses the GIO async APIs for fetching cover art, limits the music library to only the Music folder generated by the GNOME desktop, no longer adds items on idle, and deprecates the checks used for detecting duplicate jobs.

Additionally, album art fetching has been made truly asynchronous, the default icon's serialization is now deferred, and the track's and artist's names now have a higher maximum width. Then, the albums, artists, songs, and playlist queries have been revamped, and the warnings that occurred during switching of stack pages have been fixed.

Last but not least, height and width are now passed while loading the pixbuf, a model is set on the view after applying all insertions, and the Spanish and Slovenian language translations have been updated. Download GNOME Music 3.19.4 right now from Softpedia. Please note that the code is classified as unstable at the moment.
