The GNOME Project will soon release the third milestone towards the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, GNOME 3.17.3, which means that most of the core components have been updated in the last couple of days, including the GNOME Boxes virtual machine manager tool.

GNOME Boxes 3.17.3 is here to add support for CD-ROM devices to the imported virtual machines, make the storage pool to automatically start on boot, and fix an issue with "ghost" virtual machines that were displayed when attempting to go back and forth in the wizard.

Some work has been done for automated tests, such as a port to the new user interface (UI), the addition of a test for sending key combos to the current box, performance improvements to several tests, as well as better reliability for numerous tests.

Last but not least, GNOME Boxes 3.17.3 now requires the libvirt-glib 0.2.1 or later library. The Turkish, Czech, Hungarian, German, and Occitan language translations have been updated in this milestone. For more details, do not hesitate to check out the changelog attached at the end of the article.

GNOME Boxes 3.17.3 is distributed as part of GNOME 3.17.3

GNOME Boxes 3.17.3 is a pre-release software, and it will be available for testing as part of the GNOME 3.17.3 desktop environment. Please note that some unresolved issues are present in this release, which means that it is not ready for production use.

The GNOME Project will release the GNOME 3.17.3 desktop environment in the coming days, but it will be available only for select Linux distributions, so not everyone will be able to test the GNOME Boxes 3.17.3 virtualization software.

You can download the GNOME Boxes 3.17.3 sources right now from Softpedia.
